The Manufacturing Technician will support the operation, deployment, and development of the xCell rapid‑manufacturing lab, which produces mission‑critical components like modular unmanned aerial systems in forward environments. Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the role ensures the system remains functional, mobile, and ready for diverse field conditions.
- Deploy and set up xCell systems domestically and internationally, including teardown and shipment preparation.
- Manufacture, install, and commission equipment for new xCell builds.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate industrial additive manufacturing systems (FDM, SLS, MJF) to produce precision parts.
- Perform routine and corrective maintenance on compressors, HVAC, generators, electronics, and robotic tools.
- Inspect parts during and after production to ensure dimensional and functional quality.
- Use post‑processing tools (media blasters, drill presses, hand tools) to ready parts for mission use.
- Maintain detailed digital logs of maintenance, performance data, spreadsheets, and technical drawings.
- Communicate production or system issues promptly to leadership.
- Participate in equipment training and adhere to safety and environmental protocols.
- Travel as needed to support deployments and field operations.

This on‑site position is located in San Diego, California, and requires domestic and international travel to support deployments and equipment installations. The work environment may involve confined, elevated, or austere conditions and exposure to dust, heat, vibration, and loud noise, with appropriate personal protective equipment provided.
Because the role involves work subject to U.S. Government space‑technology export regulations, candidates must be U.S. citizens or otherwise eligible to obtain the required ITAR authorizations.
- 2+ years hands‑on experience in additive manufacturing or equipment maintenance.
- Proven ability to maintain industrial‑grade AM hardware and production tools.
- Proficiency with hand tools, mechanical systems, and basic diagnostics.
- Capability to interpret digital files, technical drawings, and spreadsheets.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail, safety‑conscious, dependable; able to travel to remote locations.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (preferred).
- Experience in high‑tech aerospace or DoD manufacturing, including military or spacecraft work (preferred).
- Familiarity with nylon‑based powder AM technologies such as SLS and MJF (preferred).
- Experience with expeditionary manufacturing or containerized mobile platforms (preferred).
- Hands‑on work with kit or experimental aircraft builds or component assemblies (preferred).
- Forklift operation certification (preferred).
- Ability to lift up to 30 lb and work in confined or austere conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and handle exposure to dust, heat, vibration, or noise with PPE.
