As Union Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end processing of in-house union payrolls and ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting of wages, rate sheets, and fringe benefits under collective bargaining agreements (CBAs). This role requires deep expertise in union payroll and a proven ability to manage in-house payroll operations in a fast growing, complex, multi-union environment.

  • Collaborates with HR, Finance, and Operations teams to ensure smooth payroll operations and CBA compliance.
  • This position operates primarily in an office environment, and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and printers.
  • Leads a team of Regional Payroll Administrators and ensures accurate, timely, and compliant processing of weekly union payrolls in alignment with CBA requirements.
  • Stays current with changes in union agreements, wage rates, compliance regulations and union portal login requirements.
  • Protects the assets of the Company and ethically upholds the Code of Conduct & Ethics in all situations.
  • Manages certain tasks related to the completion of internal and external financial audits, quarterly financial reviews, casualty insurance audits, and other audits as necessary.
  • Maintains appropriate Company confidentiality at all times.
  • Assists with payroll integration and training for acquisitions.
  • Offers ideas and guidance concerning the future state of the Company’s payroll processing with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant laws, regulatory reporting requirements, and internal control policies.
  • Maintains accurate records, including, but not limited to, CBAs, union pay rates and fringe benefit rates in the ERP system and prepares and/or reviews certain general journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Reviews fringe benefit and certified payroll submissions and ensures timely payment and reporting to various unions.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for union payroll-related inquiries, including providing guidance on unique taxable compensation situations, resolving discrepancies with union representatives, employees, or internal departments.
  • Cultivates and promotes the “Hearts & Minds” safety culture.

  • Strong understanding and interpretation of CBAs and union contracts.
  • Strong analytical, research, and organizational skills.
  • Prior experience in a similar industry (construction) with union payrolls.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skill with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or Finance AND 5+ years of payroll-related job experience OR 10+ years of relevant, job related experience.
  • Previous experience in researching and interpreting payroll laws and regulations.
  • Experience with multi-state payrolls.
  • Proficient in processing union rate sheets and fringe benefit reporting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Experience and/or working knowledge of UKG.
  • In performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to talk, hear, perform repetitive motion, and possess an appropriate degree of both visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • Experience and/or working knowledge of Viewpoint Vista.
  • This is considered a sedentary position, which means possible exertion up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Certified Payroll Professional or related advanced certification.
