The engineer will act as the organization’s technical authority, applying advanced theories, concepts, and research techniques to complex, self‑initiated projects. Responsibilities include defining project scope, conducting innovative studies, and advising management and customers on technical solutions. The position also serves as a spokesperson for advanced programs and maintains external technical contacts.
Key duties involve leading multiple critical projects, overseeing research, design, equipment selection, installation, start‑up, and commissioning. The engineer will manage bid and evaluation processes, mentor less‑experienced staff, and coordinate budgeting, estimating, and work‑order management to support both current and future projects.
Minimum qualifications vary by level: Staff Engineers need a BS in Engineering (ABET) and at least 2 years of relevant experience; Senior Engineers require a BS and 5 years (or 7 years without EIT/FE) plus EIT/FE; Principal Engineers require a BS and 9 years (or 15 years without a PE) with a PE license preferred. Demonstrated core technical skills and competencies, as defined by Xcel, are required for all levels.
