Senior Engineer, Mechanical

Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, development, and testing of complex mechanical components, systems, and equipment, overseeing everything from concept through manufacturing release. The role also includes training and mentoring engineers on design concepts, manufacturing techniques, and material considerations, as well as researching and implementing new design tools for the engineering department.

Key responsibilities encompass completing product designs and documentation, performing FEA and FMEA analyses, developing electronic help files, managing projects, and researching emerging technologies. The engineer will also improve departmental processes, generate testing and validation plans, and ensure product quality through testing and validation activities.

• Complete mechanical product design, analysis, and documentation from concept to manufacturing release.
• Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) incorporating customer input.
• Develop electronic help files for new products.
• Train and mentor engineers while managing multiple projects.
• Research emerging technologies, recommend solutions, and oversee implementation.
• Review and improve mechanical development processes and departmental policies.
• Create multiple design concepts and present them to peers.
• Collaborate with Document Control to produce complete design packages, including 2‑D drawings, Bills of Materials, and Engineering Change Orders.
• Design testing methods to assure system and product quality.
• Execute testing, validation plans, and generate product performance reports.
• Analyze existing designs for improvements or troubleshooting.
• Verify that designs meet customer and Leviton requirements.
• Apply strong project management skills to drive project timelines.
• Design and prototype injection‑molded plastics, metal stampings, die castings, and sheet‑metal components.
• Use engineering economic analysis for decision‑making.

Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate strong project management abilities and deep expertise in designing and prototyping injection‑molded plastics, metal stampings, die castings, and sheet‑metal parts, with a creative, solution‑oriented mindset. Independent judgment, minimal supervision, and the ability to apply engineering economic analysis are essential.

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least five years of relevant experience are required, including extensive work with high‑volume automated manufacturing, manual assembly, and 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred). Experience with PC‑board packaging, regulatory compliance, consumer product or electro‑mechanical design, and advanced drafting terminology is preferred.

The position may require up to 15 % travel, including occasional international trips.
