The General Manager must be available for a flexible schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and varied shifts, while focusing on achieving hotel financial goals and maintaining payroll and purchasing controls. They develop accurate, aggressive short‑ and long‑range financial objectives aligned with property targets and ensure compliance with Shaner and franchise operating standards. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of hotel features, room types, rates, availability, and expected arrivals and departures, as well as handling guest complaints to ensure satisfaction. Additionally, the GM assists staff in their functions, leads employee performance, establishes cleaning and safety standards, and works to secure high scores on customer service and inspection evaluations.
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all hotel operations and procedures in accordance with corporate policies and franchise standards, ensuring that core values of guest satisfaction, associate satisfaction, accountability, and profitability are met or exceeded. This position leads the sales team to develop and execute sales and marketing strategies, recruits and inspires the entire hotel team, and serves as a hands‑on operator and visible community leader. The GM also acts as the primary liaison for guests and employees, maintaining a high level of service and operational excellence.
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in the hospitality industry and possess strong communication skills with guests, management, and coworkers. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree in hospitality management or business and a CHA designation are preferred, and bilingual English/Spanish abilities are a plus. Knowledge of budget preparation, cost controls, all hotel departments, property management systems, and local attractions is essential, along with the ability to read and interpret safety and operational documents, write reports, speak to groups, and apply sound judgment.
