The Tug/Fork Truck Operator reports to the Janitorial Supervisor in the Operations department and is a non‑exempt position. The primary duty is to safely operate forklifts and tuggers to move various recyclable materials, load trucks, and conduct trailer inspections. The role also includes separating containers such as scrap metal, wood, car parts, and other recyclables, as well as picking up items throughout the plant.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols.
- Operate forklifts and tugs safely.
- Complete prior‑use checklist.
- Deliver scrap metal and nonhazardous material to appropriate destinations.
- Transport barrels, gaylords, and tire bands throughout the plant.
- Perform trailer inspections before loading and report any damage.
- Customer Service – manage difficult situations, respond promptly, solicit feedback, meet commitments.
- Quality – ensure accuracy and thoroughness, seek improvements, apply feedback, monitor own work.
- Safety and Security – follow safety procedures, take appropriate action beyond guidelines, report unsafe conditions, use equipment properly.

Physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, and frequent use of hand and arm motions. The job requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds regularly.
Candidates need less than a high school education or up to one month of related experience, combined with the ability to read safety rules, write routine reports, and speak effectively to groups. They must apply common‑sense reasoning to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions and handle problems with concrete variables. Language proficiency and basic reasoning ability are essential.
