Safety Manager - Infrastructure/Water Construction

Manage and oversee safety programs for heavy civil, transportation, water projects
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies. Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents.
Ensure that safety protocols are aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards.
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects.
Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to heavy civil, transportation, and water resource construction.
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.
Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors. Provide guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles.
Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to heavy civil, transportation, and water resource projects.
Analyze root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.

Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity.
Professional certification in safety management, specifically CHST, Required. CSP, EM385,CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications are preferred.
An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years with training for competent person status in at least Four (4) of the following competencies: Excavation; Scaffolding; Fall protection; Hazardous energy; Confined space; Health hazard recognition, evaluation and control of chemical, physical and biological agents; Personal protective equipment and clothing to include selection, use and maintenance.

Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the last 5 years
Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on heavy civil, transportation and/or water resource projects.
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Years of experience will be considered in lieu.
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed.
