This role supports the development of reactor licensing efforts and engagements with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). It serves as a liaison between internal teams—including licensing, engineering, program management, supply chain, and procurement—and the NRC across topics such as environmental law, nuclear safety, security, emergency planning, safeguards, and financial considerations for X‑energy reactor technology.
Key responsibilities include supporting licensing activities (certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses) and ensuring milestones are met, providing technical licensing support to engineers, and developing the annual regulatory engagement plan. The position also leads regulatory audits, responds to NRC Requests for Additional Information, creates licensing content for safety analysis reports and applications, drafts white papers and technical reports, manages licensing budgets, and upholds X‑energy’s safety culture and quality assurance standards while mentoring junior staff.
Minimum qualifications are a bachelor's degree in engineering, nuclear science, physics, or a related field and typically twenty years of relevant licensing experience. Candidates must have direct NRC interaction experience, a solid understanding of U.S. nuclear regulatory processes, project‑management skills for developing schedules and coordinating technical content, and preferably experience in advanced nuclear fuel qualification.
The position is located at 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD, with standard office hours (8:00 am ET to 5:00 pm ET, Monday‑Friday) and requires 10% or less travel. Compensation ranges from $171,270 to $218,845 based on education, experience, and location, reflecting base salary only.
X‑energy offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes a 401(k) plan with employer match, medical/dental/vision insurance, life and disability coverage, paid time off, and a tuition‑reimbursement/professional‑development policy.
