The Facility Locksmith installs, maintains, and repairs facility locks and related hardware for correctional facilities, troubleshooting and installing commercial and industrial security door locking hardware. They also maintain master keying systems for standard and small formats, perform preventive maintenance, and clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, latches, keepers, and hinges.
The locksmith operates hand tools, welding equipment, laptop computers, and diagnostic hardware, inspects equipment to diagnose malfunctions, dismantles defective machines, installs repaired parts, and tests operation after repair. They prepare and maintain standard operating records and reports, process work orders promptly, and complete assignments based on urgency while coordinating with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure safe and secure facility operations.
Candidates must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, at least two years of experience with detention, commercial, industrial, mechanical, or electronic locking systems, and a valid driver’s license. Locksmith certification or Architectural Hardware Certification training is preferred, and applicants must be at least 21 years old.
