Engineering Technician

Description

The Engineering Technician role supports mechanical and electrical assembly, new‑product‑introduction (NPI) builds, and prototype equipment setup. This position is critical to the development and launch of new products, requiring precision craftsmanship, technical acumen, and strong collaboration in a fast‑paced environment.

• Assemble electro‑mechanical systems, pilot equipment, and NPI builds with high precision and quality.
• Support installation, wiring, and commissioning of manufacturing and pilot equipment, including conveyors, fixtures, and automation platforms.
• Fabricate brackets, fixtures, and wiring harnesses manually, performing soldering, crimping, and machining tasks.
• Collaborate with engineers on prototype iterations, test fixture development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist in product and process validation, executing qualification protocols and collecting data.
• Operate lab tools and test equipment (meters, scopes, DAQs) to verify system performance and diagnose faults.
• Document assembly procedures, test results, and findings, providing feedback for design improvements.
• Maintain organization of lab and tool spaces, support shipping/logistics, and manage incoming parts and inventory.
• Ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols, especially when working with high‑voltage or mechanical systems.
• Contribute to design‑for‑manufacturability (DFM) reviews and provide feedback to engineering teams.

Requirements

• Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and work instructions for builds and troubleshooting.
• Hold a high school diploma or GED; 4–5+ years of experience in electro‑mechanical assembly, testing, or NPI support.
• Proficient with hand and power tools, shear, breaker, hydraulic press, and manual fabrication techniques; machine shop experience a plus.
• Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems with ability to troubleshoot and rework.
• Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and interpreting technical drawings.
• Ability to read and work from electromechanical diagrams or multi‑discipline engineering documentation.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing or bending for extended periods, and operating safely in an industrial lab.
• Communicate collaboratively across cross‑functional teams.
• Familiarity with PLC systems, HMI/SCADA, Python, or data analysis tools is a plus.
• Associate’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent hands‑on experience preferred.
• Proficient in 3D EXPERIENCE, CATIA, and SolidWorks for complex CAD model interpretation.
• Strong foundation in electrical systems and controls.
• Experience with medium‑voltage (5 kV to 36 kV) systems and power electronics.
• Prior involvement in NPI builds, pilot lines, or early‑stage product validation.
• Experience with Agile development, Scrum methodologies, and tools like Jira for task management.
