In the tool and die function, the manager oversees the design, construction, repair, and maintenance of all tooling, dies, fixtures, and related equipment. They direct preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend tool life, and they maintain accurate documentation, design files, and spare inventories. Collaboration with engineering drives tooling design improvements and manufacturability enhancements.
Within the stamping department, the manager leads daily operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives. Responsibilities include overseeing press setup, automation, and equipment optimization, as well as training operators and support staff. Production metrics are monitored and process improvements are implemented to reduce waste, scrap, and downtime.
The manager provides clear direction, coaching, and career development for both tool room and stamping teams, while leading Lean, Kaizen, 5S, SMED, and TPM initiatives. Budgetary control, capital expenditure management, and cost‑saving projects are also administered. Strong partnerships with engineering, quality, maintenance, purchasing, and production planning support root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues.
Candidates should hold an associate degree or technical diploma in a related field, with 5–10+ years of tool and die experience and 3–5+ years of supervisory experience. Proficiency in reading blueprints, CAD models, GD&T, and SolidWorks, along with strong problem‑solving and communication skills, is required. The role is primarily on the production floor, may involve overtime or off‑shift support, and demands a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment.
