The designer will develop space plans and interior architectural layouts for schools, select furnishings and finishes, and create detailed cost estimates. They will review construction documents and conduct site visits to ensure compliance with safety, accessibility, environmental and sustainability standards. The role also includes coordinating procurement, supervising logistics, preparing specifications, and producing interior drawings and visual aids.
Candidates must have at least eight years of full‑time professional experience in interior design, space planning, and furniture/equipment coordination, with a preference for experience in public‑agency or school construction projects. A bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture or a related field is required, or equivalent coursework (40 semester units) plus two additional years of experience.
Required knowledge and skills include interior design principles, furniture and equipment specification, color theory, budgeting, scheduling, and procurement processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Revit, as well as familiarity with building codes, ADA, fire and life safety regulations, is essential. Strong oral and written communication, presentation abilities, and teamwork with facilities staff and administrators are also needed.
