BAU Outside Plant Engineer

Description

• Meet with municipal officials to discuss road and utility projects (travel reimbursed).
• Locate and assess Frontier facilities and evaluate project impacts.
• Develop utility relocation plans to minimize conflicts and avoid delays.
• Execute field/design OSP work orders, including service orders, subdivisions, road moves, dark fiber MDU, and aerial or underground installations.
• Update project systems such as FROGS, CAD, Varasset, and SiteTracker.
• Coordinate make‑ready work, pole replacements, and service requests with power and communication providers.
• Prepare and submit permits to local, state and federal agencies (DOT, DNR, railroad, pipeline, etc.).
• Partner with SSP contractors to ensure timely, cost‑effective construction.
• Manage plant‑damage repair requests, cable count adjustments, and related capital projects.
• Conduct site surveys and design capital projects for cell towers.
• Support field and central office technicians by investigating and resolving PUC complaints.
• Collaborate with contract engineers to align projects with business and client needs.

Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled OSP Engineer to support copper and fiber outside‑plant projects. The role involves estimating, analyzing, designing and planning OSP work while tracking budgets and ensuring compliance with company and industry standards. The engineer will coordinate with municipal agencies, contractors and utilities to deliver projects on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards, balancing field and design work with permitting, reporting and cross‑team collaboration.

• 3–5+ years experience in copper and fiber‑optic telecommunications engineering, including broadband design and OSP construction.
• 5+ years in network engineering or a related field with strong knowledge of fiber record management, cable counts and permitting.
• Proficient in FROGS, CAD updates, Frontier mapping, design tools and permitting systems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and communicate effectively with municipal officials, contractors and internal stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to travel for project meetings, inspections and surveys as required.
• Must reside within one hour of the listed cities in Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio.
