This position is based in a hybrid schedule, requiring three days per week on‑site at the Sargent & Lundy office in Peachtree Corners, GA. Reporting to the Mechanical Project Lead, the role provides the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams on mechanical physical layout drawings within a 3‑D model environment.
The Mechanical/Structural Responsible Designer will create and coordinate detailed design phases for integrated mechanical systems, including mechanical and structural layouts, piping isometrics, and equipment location drawings. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting design challenges, guiding project team members, and occasionally conducting field walkdowns to gather data at client facilities.
- Develop mechanical physical layout drawings using 3‑D modeling tools.
- Design mechanical/structural systems and resolve related engineering issues.
- Serve as Mechanical/Structural Responsible Designer coordinating detailed design phases.
- Guide designers and project team members to ensure timely, complete designs.
- Produce deliverables such as general arrangements, piping isometrics, pipe support and equipment location drawings.
- Conduct field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities as needed.
- Mentor and train less‑experienced drafters and designers.

Candidates must hold an Associate’s degree in drafting or a high school diploma with at least four years of drafting experience, and bring ten or more years of detailed mechanical design expertise, including five years in the nuclear power sector. Proficiency with 3‑D plant layout software, experience reviewing mechanical equipment, and the ability to work across engineering disciplines are essential; MicroStation skills are a plus.
