Head of AI Platform Engineering

Description

• Define comprehensive data strategy for AI initiatives, including secure handling of sensitive data, export control compliance, CMMC requirements, and CUI data governance
• Implement and scale agile methodologies
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across GE Vernova business units to implement process transformation
• Build strategic partnerships with hyperscaler's to ensure our platform has secure access to the latest AI services, compute and LLMs
• Establish the vision for next-generation AI Services, including Cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and model integration leveraging proven experience in Cloud platform strategy development
• Architect and deliver reusable responsible AI services and components including bias detection, explainability tools, model monitoring, and governance frameworks that business units can leverage for compliant AI deployment
• Build partnerships with cloud providers, technology vendors, and open-source communities
• Drives enterprise risk management for AI platform operations
• Maintains pulse on industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies
• Identify and incubate emerging technologies that could transform the AI platform landscape
• Champion responsible AI principles and establish governance frameworks ensuring ethical, transparent, and compliant AI solutions across the enterprise
• Establish technical standards for AI infrastructure including compute orchestration (GitOps), modern cloud-native practices, and secure on-premises AI capabilities
• Establishes a culture of operational excellence with focus on reliability, observability, and automation
• Leads organizational change management at scale for AI platform adoption
• Establish and direct a world-class AI platform engineering organization capable of delivering enterprise-scale AI infrastructure, tools, and services
• Partner with AI leaders across the company to build out GE Vernova's AI strategy, focusing on platform and software capabilities to accelerate deployment. Present strategy and updates to CEO's and staff.
• Builds inclusive teams that reflect diverse perspectives and backgrounds
• Define and execute a comprehensive AI platform strategy aligned with company-wide digital transformation and AI initiatives
• Ensure platform reliability, security, and compliance with industry standards and regulations including export control, CMMC, and CUI data handling requirements
• Lead strategic partnerships with consulting organizations to augment our staff to deliver AI applications for GE Vernova
• Orchestrate enterprise adoption of AI-assisted development practices and emerging AI technologies including LLMs and emerging AI paradigms
• Drive cost optimization strategies for AI compute resources and infrastructure (FinOps)
• Lead teams of internal hires and contractors responsible for building end-to-end pipelines and apps for delivery
• Provide executive oversight of multiple teams globally including large contractor groups across AI infrastructure, platform services, apps
• Lead investment in architecture and software to deliver enterprise-wide AI transformation initiatives to accelerate AI adoption across business units
• Oversee the design and implementation of scalable AI platform supporting diverse use cases from proof of concept to production serving tens of thousands of users across cloud and on-premises environments
• Serves as subject matter expert to executive leadership on AI platform strategy
• Establish KPIs and metrics to measure platform adoption and drive governance

Requirements

• Balances technical depth with business acumen to drive ROI on AI investments
• Knowledge of MLOps practices and tools
• Track record of driving large-scale organizational transformations
• 5+ years of experience leading teams of 50+ engineers across multiple disciplines
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related STEM field required; Master's or PhD preferred
• Architecting platforms that scale from proof-of-concept to production serving tens of thousands of users
• Strong foundation in software engineering principles, microservices, and API design
• Experience developing and deploying AI applications
• 15+ years of senior leadership experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or infrastructure
• Proven success in enterprise digital transformation initiatives
• Experience managing multi-million dollar budgets and delivering ROI
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Cloud technologies and platforms
• Executive-level strategic planning and execution experience
• Knowledge of responsible AI frameworks, model governance, bias mitigation, and explainability solutions
• Exceptional communication skills with ability to articulate complex technical strategies to executive audiences
• Demonstrates executive presence and ability to influence at all organizational levels
• Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent
• Experience navigating ambiguity and driving clarity in complex environments
• Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships across organizational boundaries
• Experience with sensitive data handling including export control, CMMC compliance, and CUI data governance in AI environments
• Strong business acumen with ability to align technology investments with business outcomes
• Proven track record of building and scaling apps in enterprise environments
• Experience with distributed computing frameworks and big data technologies
• Expertise in cloud-native architectures and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Experience with hybrid cloud and on-premises AI infrastructure management
• Excellence in stakeholder management across technical and non-technical audiences
