The lineman performs both energized and de‑energized work, leading crew members when the foreman is absent. Core duties include stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and installing components such as transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear. They troubleshoot primary and secondary systems, replace cutout fuses, and safely handle high‑voltage equipment while adhering to grounding, PPE, and phasing procedures.
Additional responsibilities include conducting pre‑job and tailgate briefings, planning work from job prints or work orders, performing reconductoring, installing and removing mechanical jumpers, and using load‑bust tools and one‑shot techniques on reclosers. The lineman maintains company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good condition and must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in inclement weather.
The Class A Lineman is a skilled position responsible for construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The role operates at various locations and may require travel to other states depending on customer demands.
Candidates must have at least five years of recent field experience, be able to read and communicate effectively in English, and obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of hire (CDL preferred). The role requires the ability to travel long distances on short notice, lift more than 50 lb, inspect rubber goods and PPE, and work overtime, weekends, or holidays as needed.
