What you would be doing
lessons integration
safety assurance
standards development
team training
mechanical analysis
global coordination
Take lessons learnt from Projects including site works and integrate into the processes and documentation where applicable.
Ensure the highest levels of safety can be achieved during any testing or installation works and the application of this is within our documentation.
Work with the Mechanical Engineering team and Principal Engineers to develop and enhance the standard documents used in HVDC Engineering. This includes drawings, standard material lists, process documents and testing protocols.
Reflect the relevant international mechanical standards within our documentation ensuring at all times GE remains compliant to the requirements.
Train, coach and develop individuals in all locations to ensure understanding of the tools, processes and requirements. Proactively develop the competency of the team.
Conceptual or theoretical activities related to the principles of engineering, physics, and materials science for the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Includes the analysis of static (structural) and dynamic behaviour of mechanical systems.
Draw on work done by Principal Engineers and reflect all learnings into our standards, documents etc.
Work with the teams around the globe to ensure the standard documents, processes etc are understood and followed. Acting on any anomalies or feedback.
What you bring

team lead
Able to work to deadlines with high quality
EHS compliance ability - good strong knowledge of safety and the environment.
Knowledge of document control methodologies and systems.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of relevant IEC, IEEE, or CIGRÉ standards for HVDC systems and mechanical design codes (e.g., ASME, ISO).
Significant communication skills.
Expectation to travel 20% of the time across the world.
Familiarity with materials used in high-voltage environments including corrosion protection strategies, especially for offshore or harsh environments.
The candidate must be willing and able to frequently travel globally for periods of time, often at short notice.
High attention to detail.
Experience in HVDC or a related engineering field.
The candidate will probably be educated to degree level in mechanical engineering. However, this is not as important as a proven track record and evidence that you have the experience and abilities to perform the role.
Knowledge of Mechanical installation of large equipment (valve halls). Understanding of lifting, rigging, and structural integrity during transportation and installation.
Candidates should have proven experience of the mechanical design and/or development of HVDC Valves. A good understanding of the mechanical related elements associated with the design, manufacture and installation of HVDC Valves. It is key that the candidate has the ability to work quickly and efficiently within an engineering team.
Ability to coordinate and lead a small group of engineers
Prior experience of electrical transmission industry with site experience
Competent in CREO / CAD software or similar. Able to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
Has been involved in continuous improvement / LEAN activities.
An ability to work within various cultures environments coupled with a desire to learn new skills and a willingness to share the knowledge are essential qualities. Ideally, the candidate will have a good track record of leading a team of engineers on a global basis.
Educated to degree level in Mechanical engineering or related discipline.
