Cable System Design Engineer

Description

We are looking for ambitious Cable System Design Engineers to join our Transmission & Distribution team. The role involves delivering cable system projects for transmission system operators, distribution network operators and private developers across multiple voltage levels, and contributing from feasibility and concept through detailed design, installation support and commissioning of on‑shore infrastructure.

• Deliver full‑lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility to commissioning.
• Review complex HV cable designs, including route development and burial risk assessments.
• Perform cable rating and system studies (ampacity, short‑circuit forces, thermal stability, EMI analysis).
• Conduct cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams for integrated solutions.
• Support third‑party inspections and assist with FAT/SAT, installation, and commissioning activities.
• Interface with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid TP standards.

Requirements

• Possess experience in HV/EHV cable system design engineering, including FEED.
• Understand on‑shore cable routing, mechanical forces, burial risk assessments, and protection strategies.
• Knowledge of electromagnetic, thermal, and stability analysis, as well as cleating and short‑circuit restraint.
• Familiarity with IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG‑TP national/international standards.
• Experience with cable system ECI engineering, subsea control solutions, manufacturing, testing, and third‑party verification.
• Proficient with CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, and mechanical simulation tools (preferred).
• Minimum HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field; Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or progress preferred.
