The Lead Operating Engineer is responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems at assigned facilities. This role often serves as the sole engineer on‑site and may supervise maintenance staff depending on the building's size and complexity.
Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, with a trade school apprenticeship preferred, and at least five years of experience operating MEP systems in a commercial property. Candidates must hold appropriate licenses such as Journeyman or Master Electrician, EPA Section 608 certification for refrigerants, and a valid driver’s license, and should be proficient with Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Additional expertise in HVAC, boilers, pumps, refrigerant systems, and energy management is essential, as is the ability to work extended shifts, on‑call duties, and possibly serve as the only maintenance staff during certain periods.
The position operates in a professional office environment and requires regular travel between properties in varying weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of at least 50 lb, climbing, stooping, crouching, and moving equipment across multiple floors and departments.
Compensation ranges from $30.65 to $36.06 per hour, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, vision, dental, retirement, and disability insurance.
