Locator - Locate Services Division (Lorain, OH)

Description

Utility Locators locate underground utilities for clients and property owners in accordance with 811 dig laws, using utility maps, as‑built civil engineering drawings, GIS data, and electronic locating equipment. They mark utilities with flags or paint, document work through reports, forms, memos, and photographs, and investigate any damage that occurs during excavations. The position requires use of a cell‑phone app to record locating marks and complete documentation, and includes participation in an on‑call rotation.

• Follow best locate practices, procedures, and 811 law.
• Read and interpret utility maps and as‑built civil engineering drawings.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper operating condition of all equipment and vehicles, including a tobacco‑free vehicle.
• Locate underground utilities using multiple locating methods.
• Maintain small‑ to medium‑sized equipment and trucks.
• Complete required paperwork and documentation.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

Requirements

• Follow written and oral instructions accurately.
• Exhibit strong attention to detail.
• Work in all weather conditions and be willing to travel 75%+ of the time.
• Apply excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Pass a drug screen and possess a valid driver’s license with ability to obtain DOT physical certification.
• Be available for varying schedules, overtime, and on‑call rotation while maintaining regular attendance and punctuality.
• Demonstrate self‑motivation, quick learning ability, teamwork, exemplary character, and a safety‑focused mindset.
