Work with construction teams to develop work methods and plans, and where viable integrate constructability recommendations into environmental assessments, including highlighting and seeking to mitigate restrictive conditions that could impact delivery.\
Provide guidance on assessment and monitoring methods, mitigation measures and controls, sustainability, contractual commitments, laws and regulations, and Bechtel requirements.
Foster relationships with regulatory environmental agencies, NGOs, and academic institutions to enhance project outcomes.
Provide clear and transparent communication regarding project impacts, mitigation measures, and benefits to local communities and stakeholders.
Coordinate with ESH Management regarding significant issues and support. Work with other functional leads (e.g., engineering, construction, startup, subcontracts, procurement, project controls, document control) to obtain documentation needed for permit applications and regulatory and contract submittals.
Conduct and coordinate reviews, assessments, and audits to monitor compliance with contractual commitments, regulatory requirements, and Bechtel standards and procedures.
Develop and implement mitigation measures for pumped hydropower-specific environmental challenges, such as fish migration, sedimentation, and biodiversity conservation.
Conduct risk assessments to address potential impacts on water resources and downstream ecosystems, ensuring long-term project sustainability.
Mentor and train junior staff to build environmental management capacity within the team.
Stay up to date with environmental regulations and provide guidance to project teams on legal and policy changes.
Receives supervision and work assignments from the Project ESH Manager, Project Director, Functional Environmental Manager, and/or Project Manager.
Provides technical support and training to Management, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Startup, Operations, Legal, Contracts, Procurement, and other functions regarding ESH program execution.
Supervise assigned environmental personnel and provides guidance on their work activities.
In supervisory role, implements personnel policies (e.g., conducts employee performance evaluations) and provides technical direction to staff.
Lead a multidisciplinary environmental team, collaborating with engineers and project managers.
Coordinate progress meetings with stakeholders, environmental consultants and project staff to effectively manage project compliance.
Engage with regulatory authorities, municipalities, NGOs, local communities, and other stakeholders to address environmental and social concerns.
Attend meetings and communicate with clients, government entities, and various regulatory agencies to fulfill any regulations and requirements relating to projects
Prepare and review Environmental Management Plans and associated plans, and awareness and training programs, in compliance with Bechtel standards, the ESH Management System, andcontract and regulatory requirements.
Act as the subcontract technical representative (STR) for the environmental consultant’s contract, dealing with correspondence, change and supporting Supply Chain in the administration of the contract.
Oversee studies to ensure environmental and social considerations are integrated into environmental compliance. Oversee any consultants conducting environmental surveys and permitting development.

Proven leadership skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional, multicultural teams
Master’s degree or higher in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or similar.
Enjoy working in both an office environment and in the field
Prior experience in environmental assessments for development phase of large-scale infrastructure projects such as SEA, EIA or ESIA.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Possess strong technical writing skills and have experience writing detailed technical reports
Analytical and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and strategic thinking.
Persuasive communication and negotiation skills, especially for managing multi-stakeholder discussions.
Experience leading diverse teams or strong appetite to learn
Knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting processes, and environmental directives.
Willingness to travel including remote project sites.
Professional certifications in environmental management (e.g., ISO 14001) are advantageous.
15+ years of relevant experience in environmental management in infrastructure projects, with proven leadership experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience.
