Safety Specialist

Description

The Safety Specialist role supports Hourigan’s safety culture by ensuring compliance and promoting safe work practices for employees and subcontractors on job sites.

• Model and enforce safe work practices across job sites.
• Train employees, subcontractors, and partners on safety procedures and expectations.
• Perform jobsite inspections and recommend corrective actions.
• Facilitate safety trainings, orientations, and first‑aid/CPR sessions.
• Lead weekly safety meetings and participate in pre‑construction safety briefings.
• Verify subcontractor equipment training and develop site‑specific safety protocols.
• Issue and manage personal protective equipment (PPE) inventory.
• Serve as a resource for job‑site safety problem‑solving and support the Hourigan SHMS.

Requirements

Candidates should have a BS in Safety and Health or equivalent experience, OSHA 30/510/500 and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, and preferably 1–3 years of safety experience in commercial construction. They must understand OSHA regulations, possess strong hazard‑identification skills, be proficient with Microsoft Office, and be physically able to work on job sites and travel when required.

• BS in Safety & Health or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 1–3 years safety/environmental health experience in commercial construction (preferred).
• OSHA 30/510/500 certification and current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
• Strong knowledge of construction safety principles and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
• Physical ability to climb ladders, navigate uneven surfaces, and tolerate temperature extremes.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
