What you would be doing

  • Provides support during construction phase, exhibiting an understanding of construction methodologies, techniques and associated working space.
  • Assists in preparing plans using current engineering drafting software (AutoCAD or MicroStation).
  • Works closely with CAD drafters on the preparation of detailed plans.
  • Reviews and uses design manuals, agency standards, and procedures.
  • Conducts internal technical training of junior staff; provides coaching as needed.
  • Independently prepares project plans, specifications, estimates, calculate quantities, performs structural calculations, and prepare reports, and exhibits.
  • Provides QC support by following the appropriate procedures as outlined.
  • Prepares calculations using current engineering design software (SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, Xtract, etc.).
  • Develops working relationships with outside contacts such as utilities, regulatory agencies, and sub-consultants.
  • Mentors and manages internal design team efforts.

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering, concentration in structures strongly preferred, but not required, MS in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of Auto CAD or MicroStation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of MS Office, including MS Word and MS Excel.
  • 4-6+ years of progressive relevant structural engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of structural design for reinforced concentrate.
  • Gains knowledge of scope, budgets, agreements, and financial reporting systems.
  • Must be able to design a bridge independently.
  • California Professional Engineer license required.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate and lead design groups.
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, XTRACT or similar design programs; CSI Bridge preferred.
