In this role you’ll collaborate with project teams to address a range of building performance and energy optimization goals throughout all phases of design, construction, and operation. Your contributions will directly support and elevate HGA’s commitment to industry‑leading sustainable design.
As part of HGA’s Building Performance Group you will lead commissioning efforts from design through construction, drive retro‑commissioning projects, design renewable energy systems such as solar PV and battery storage, and develop decarbonization plans for new and existing facilities. You will also perform energy modeling and apply HVAC and electrical expertise to create high‑performance solutions like heat pumps and geothermal systems while helping develop training tools for architects and engineers.
Key responsibilities include identifying performance opportunities, assisting design teams with energy improvements and code compliance, executing advanced simulation workflows (climate analysis, benchmarking, comfort criteria, façade optimization, conceptual modeling), and delivering clear documentation and visualizations to project teams. You will also support planning studies, communicate effectively with colleagues, and adapt to a fast‑paced environment with tight deadlines.
You will contribute to HGA’s sustainability practice by researching emerging tools, creating new workflows, supporting office‑wide training, and collaborating with a network of building performance practitioners across the firm.
Bring your engineering passion, collaboration, and expertise to HGA and join us as a Building Performance Engineer! Are you passionate about high‑performance buildings and sustainable design? HGA is seeking a Building Performance Engineer to support our offices and diverse market sectors across the country.
The position requires at least a bachelor’s degree in architectural or mechanical engineering, a PE license is preferred, and a minimum of three years’ experience in engineering, sustainable design, energy analysis, or commissioning. Preferred credentials include LEED AP, ASHRAE, or CABEC CEA, and proficiency with a variety of digital performance analysis and BIM software, as well as strong knowledge of certification programs, building codes and ASHRAE standards.
Compensation aligns with location and ranges from $83,200 to $111,400, with eligibility for bonuses, 401(k) matching, paid parental leave, comprehensive health benefits, PTO and disability programs. HGA fosters an inclusive, innovative culture that values empathy, curiosity, work‑life balance, and career growth.
