First Degree in Engineering Acoustics, Electro-Acoustics or related disciplines such as Civil or Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Architecture, combination degrees of the former.
Inquisitive approach and capable of producing innovative solutions.
Excellent calculation skills and attenuation to detail in checking others’ calculations.
Competence with environmental noise surveys, and the field testing of room and architectural acoustics is expected.
Must be able to clearly share complex technical ideas and concepts to both technical and non- technical audiences.
Demonstrable competence in making noise and vibration measurements. Evidence of appropriate training in the proper use of sound level meters is expected.
Good communication skills both verbal and written.
Ability to accept a degree of responsibility for the department’s success in a team-based organisation, combined with ability to work independently.
Adept in the use of acoustic modelling packages is expected – CADNA and CATT Acoustics would be ideal.
Experience as a consultant able to propose multiple solutions to Clients and objectively summarise the benefits and shortfalls of each.
Significant experience of engineering acoustics within buildings.
Adaptable and prepared to offer a range of services in the long term.
Deep technical experience of architectural/building acoustics, noise control engineering
Professionally registered (CEng, IEng) with the Engineering Council UK or equivalent body. Full corporate membership of the Institute of Acoustics is expected.
