The role involves reactive and planned maintenance, installation and commissioning of highway control technology such as CCTV, traffic monitoring units, variable message signs, emergency telephones and other electronic and communications equipment, primarily on motorways.

The Field Engineer will join a multi‑disciplinary frontline team responsible for the availability and safety of Transport Scotland roadside technology assets on Scottish motorways and trunk roads, and a valid driving licence is required.

Install, maintain and repair electrical, control and communications installations per regulations and manufacturer guidelines; respond to urgent failures.
Perform initial verification, periodic testing and inspection to BS7671 standards and issue certifications.
Update schematic diagrams and as‑built records.
Carry out all highway electrical maintenance tasks, including routine and cyclic work.
Ensure health and safety compliance for self and others, adhering to relevant legislation.
Keep accurate records, complete paperwork and liaise with Amey staff, subcontractors, emergency services, police, public, clients and customers.

Ideal candidates hold a national certificate in an electronic or electrical discipline and vocational qualifications in electrotechnical or telecommunications; field installation experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
