You’ll play a key role in shaping our standards for energy, carbon and water, leading workshops and site briefings to identify improvements and push performance to the next level. With a sharp eye for detail, you’ll dive into data to uncover opportunities, highlight areas of waste, and work with our energy services teams to make smarter use of metering and monitoring tools.

From no-cost efficiency wins to invest-to-save projects, you’ll design solutions that deliver real impact while ensuring colleagues are equipped with the tools and knowledge to embed lasting change. By creating common processes and sharing best practice, you’ll help foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation that keeps us moving closer to our net zero goals

  • Lead the development and delivery of energy, carbon, and water standards that drive continuous improvement in site performance.
  • Analyse energy and carbon data to quantify performance, highlight waste, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Champion a culture of learning by creating and embedding consistent processes for operational changes and sharing best practice across teams.
  • Overseeing implementation of capital works, e.g. invest to save projects
  • Design, cost, and deliver invest-to-save projects, ensuring clear benefits and measurable impact.
  • Partner with energy services teams to scope sub-metering requirements and upskill operational staff in the use of monitoring tools.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, operations, and sustainability to deliver innovative solutions that align with net zero ambitions.
  • Conduct site workshops, technical briefings, and performance reviews to identify efficiency opportunities and implement improvements.

Are you passionate about sustainability and innovative engineering solutions? We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Net Zero Engineer to help drive our mission of reducing carbon footprints and improving energy efficiency across our sites.

  • Strong data analysis skills, including the ability to construct detailed energy balance assessments.
  • Chartered professional engineer, or can present a tangible plan to obtain chartership within the first 12 to 24months of tenure (e.g. engineering degree qualified or suitable experience to gain chartership status)
  • Ability to influence and communicate across all levels of the organisation
  • Comprehensive understanding of the operation and optimisation of key energy consuming assets within the water industry (e.g. Activated sludge process, pumping systems, heat and steam systems)
  • Good presentation skills and comfortable leading workshops and disseminating results across all levels
  • Experienced in root cause analysis
  • Experienced in energy & carbon auditing best practices (e.g. ESOS compliance)
  • Experienced in development of business cases for funding
