The Role

Overview

Flagger directs traffic and sets up safety zones at construction sites.

Tasks

-Cleans up jobsite including sweeping, putting away tools and organizing tools on flatbed. -Uses hand signals and direction signs to direct traffic around road construction site. -Breaks down job and collects materials when jobs have been completed. Maintains accurate inventory of signs and equipment. -Sets up traffic zones according to regulations or traffic control plan (TCP) using jobsite signs, cones, etc. and determines basic traffic control needs under supervision of TCS or Foreman. -Communicates with other flaggers using hand-held radios. -Informs construction crew of any traffic issues that may affect their safety.

What You Bring

-Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs. -Must be able to pass a background check. -Follows all safety rules and regulations and practice preventive safety measures; wears required PPE. -Over 40 years of experience -Ability to recognize dangerous traffic situations and warn workers in sufficient time to avoid injury. -Ability to control signaling devices (such as paddles and flags) in order to provide clear and positive guidance to drivers approaching a temporary traffic control (TTC) zone in frequently changing situations. -Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record. -Must be able to pass a drug screen. -Must have a current flagger's card. -Ability to receive and communicate specific instructions clearly, firmly and courteously; ability to move and maneuver quickly in order to avoid danger from an errant vehicle. -Ability to work weekends and occasional nights. -Ability to be self-motivated. -Ability to work as part of a team. -Ability to travel to various worksites. -Ability to work long hours and in all weather conditions. -Ability to understand and apply safe traffic control practices, sometimes in stressful or emergency situations.
