Design Intern (Indianapolis, IN)

Description

The Design Intern will support the Design Team in daily design activities across existing and new projects, handling tasks such as site analysis, layout, building configuration, design contracts, permitting schedules, and internal presentations. The role involves coordination with multiple departments within Buckingham Companies.

• Manage day‑to‑day design activities for existing and new project assignments.
• Assist in developing site layouts, project pro forma analysis, and project scopes.
• Create requests for design proposals and execute design contracts.
• Develop Smartsheet design schedules and coordinate permitting and construction timelines with Preconstruction.
• Contribute to building configuration, composition, and architectural design with internal and external teams.
• Participate in weekly design meetings to coordinate with landscape architects, civil/MEP engineers, interior designers, and other consultants.
• Review design documents for completeness, constructability, aesthetics, and compliance with Buckingham standards.
• Collaborate with Preconstruction to keep projects on budget and schedule.
• Organize project documents and improve processes through SOPs and templates.
• Prepare internal design presentations for ownership, property & asset management, and executive leadership.
• Support construction administration tasks and property turnover with Construction Corp. and Property Management.

Requirements

• Pursue a degree in architecture, civil engineering, construction, landscape or interior architecture, or real estate.
• Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
• Hold a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Be proficient in Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and SharePoint.
• Prefer experience with Smartsheet, Photoshop, InDesign, SketchUp, and Revit.
• Work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
• Exhibit strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Innovate in presentation creation and process development.
