This position also plays a key role in data analysis, reporting, and supporting employee lifecycle events by providing accurate payroll insights, responding to ad hoc data requests, and assisting with termination and year-end processes.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll Coordinator to join our Finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for processing payroll for approximately 600 employees across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Yukon. Using our HRIS payroll system (Dayforce), our ERP (BST Enterprise), and Microsoft Excel, you will ensure timely and accurate payroll administration in compliance with provincial and federal legislation.

  • Ensure payroll practices comply with employment standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements in Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, and Yukon.
  • Prepare and file year-end documents (e.g., T4s, provincial reporting, WCB, BC Employer Health Tax, etc.).
  • Support audits and provide required payroll documentation.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and payroll policies.
  • Create ad hoc reports and dashboards for HR, Finance, and business leaders.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Managers to address payroll-related issues.
  • Some weekends required to process pay in a timely manner.
  • Monitor payroll trends (e.g., overtime, benefits costs, turnover data) to support workforce planning and decision-making.
  • Prepare Records of Employment (ROEs), vacation/sick balance checks, and final pay calculations.
  • Support optimization of payroll processes and reporting functions within the HRIS.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance payroll accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Import, validate, and reconcile payroll data, including timesheets, benefits, deductions, and allowances.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of employee terminations in compliance with provincial standards.
  • Pull, analyze, and present payroll-related data using the HRIS and Excel.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure accuracy of employee data within the HRIS.
  • Prepare, review, and process bi-weekly payroll for ~600 employees across multiple provinces and territories.
  • Conduct payroll audits and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Support HR in offboarding processes with payroll-related documentation.

We are ideally seeking a professional who is able to work out of our beautiful Edmonton, Alberta office but candidates within Alberta may also be considered on a hybrid schedule.

  • Solid understanding of payroll regulations, taxation, and employment standards across Western Canada.
  • Ability to complete payroll related journal entries.
  • Experience with an HRIS payroll system.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, data validation, reconciliations).
  • Certifications and education considered an asset (PCP, CPM and other post-secondary education).
  • You have a strong attention to detail and consider yourself swift and nimble while ensuring accuracy.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Must be available to work occasional weekends due to pay cycles.

  • 4+ years of payroll experience; experience in multi-province payroll is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and prepare meaningful reports for stakeholders.
