Work with Indigenous communities to develop and maintain relationships of mutual trust, respect, and collaboration.
Take initiative and be responsive to changing project, equipment, material, and personnel needs.
Supervise and perform archaeological assessments and mitigations utilizing a variety of approved field methodologies, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, surface collection, and monitoring.
Supervise a team of Archaeology Field Technicians.
Prepare and maintain detailed field notes, drawings, and maps.
Quality control fieldwork and data, and complete work in accordance with the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM) Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists.
Learn from and assist senior technical advisors in the development of advanced technical methods, techniques, documents, and tools.
Lead and motivate your field team to achieve productivity goals.
Work with senior technical advisors, Project Managers, and Task Managers for delivery high-quality products that meet our clients’ unique project needs.
Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team.

Conscientious, organized, disciplined, and goal oriented.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform rigorous physical activities, such as lifting up to 50 lbs and being capable of repetitive movement under adverse weather conditions.
Leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team are essential.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree BA/B.Sc. in archaeology or equivalent combination of education (i.e., cultural resources, heritage, anthropology) and experience.
A thorough understanding and application of the MCM’s Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists and associated Technical Bulletins are required.
Minimum of one year of proven field experience (Stage 1-4 AA) in the role of Archaeology Field Supervisor, specific to Ontario consulting archaeology; greater than one year experience preferred.
Travel within Ontario and overnight for extended durations is required at times.
Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required).
Experienced at working well in a team atmosphere and independently as required.
Attention to detail is critical.
A good driving record and a valid driver’s license are required.
Must have the willingness to learn new skills.
Minimum of a Research License in good standing with the MCM.
Experience field directing Stage 3 archaeological assessment and Stage 4 excavation is a valued asset.
Working knowledge of Indigenous and Euro-Canadian archaeological resources and artifacts, including the identification of archaeological stratigraphy, cultural features, and settlement patterns.
Work must comply with occupational health and safety policies and procedures and Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) program, policies, and safe work practices.
Experience with ArcGIS, and other digital data applications, as well as transits and total stations.
Thorough understanding of MCM reporting requirements and their relevance to archaeological fieldwork.
