Freight Rail Deputy Project Manager

Description

• Build relationships and communicate directly with client public project engineers.
• Coordinate with DOTs, designers, and contractors to address railroad‑related concerns.
• Oversee preliminary design tasks, identify railroad impacts, gather client input, and communicate concerns.
• Guide construction tasks by ensuring contractor compliance with railroad requirements and mitigating impacts.
• Collaborate with local AECOM offices for field inspections and design reviews.
• Manage budgets and schedules for individual tasks.
• Assist the project manager with invoicing, data management, and client requests.
• Handle multiple tasks and large volumes of input data efficiently.
• Drive and implement process improvements.

Requirements

• Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, across offices and states.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Design, Construction Inspection, or Project Management with 4+ years relevant experience (or equivalent).
• Valid US driver’s license and willingness to travel out‑of‑state (4‑6 times per year) and to project sites as needed.
• Preferred: Structural Engineering focus, prior project management experience, 6 years freight rail industry experience, detail‑oriented plan review, strong verbal and written communication, time‑management, and work ethic.

The role is based in Chicago, IL (Hybrid work model) with a salary range of $100,000‑$145,000 annually, and is classified under the Transportation business line of AECOM Technical Services Inc.
