The manager provides leadership to Field Construction Managers responsible for electric line and substation projects, determines contract resource needs, and oversees contractor performance. They coordinate field inspections, sign‑offs, and ensure all functional testing is completed before commissioning. Managing outsourced construction firms, they enforce safety, quality, schedule, and budget compliance while ensuring permit conditions are met.
Construction schedules are integrated with planning, cost tracking, installation, sequencing, testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities. The manager ensures material procurement plans are established, provides constructability feedback on electrical, mechanical, protection, and civil standards, and proactively identifies and mitigates construction risks.
Safety is a core responsibility; the manager maintains safety awareness, enforces contractor safety policies, and addresses unsafe conditions promptly. They lead site activities during electrical emergencies and ensure all field teams operate within schedule and budget constraints.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management with at least seven years of relevant experience, or equivalent combinations of associate or high‑school education with additional years of experience. Candidates need a minimum of five years progressive electric utility construction management experience, three years supervisory experience preferred, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel daily. Required skills encompass extensive knowledge of utility construction practices, commissioning, regulatory codes (OSHA, NESC, NEC), contract negotiation, budgeting, reading technical drawings, and strong leadership, communication, and analytical abilities.
