Fire Engineering - Rail

Description

Our Transportation team is growing in Northern Ireland and we have an exciting opportunity for a Fire Project Engineer to join our Rail team on a full‑time permanent contract. As a Fire Project Engineer you will represent Mace whilst interfacing with our key clients, ensuring the successful delivery of key assignments and providing strategic direction aligned with overall vision and objectives. You will work in the office three days per week with ad‑hoc travel to sites in and around Belfast.

• Coordinate work with other contractors.
• Liaise with route engineers.
• Design, install, and commission fire systems.
• Apply fire codes and standards for system design, supported by relevant coursework.
• Design and review fire strategies and engineering solutions.
• Provide assurance for fire system design and commissioning.
• Ensure fire strategy designs follow prescriptive guidance, excluding performance‑based design and smoke control for unmanaged stations.
• Assure fire strategies/designs for managed stations or where risk analysis/performance‑based approaches are used.
• Participate in engineering and development assurance to deliver affordable, safe, environmentally responsible schemes meeting time, cost and quality targets.
• Use risk identification and evaluation methods (e.g., HAZOP, QRA) to compare options.
• Produce and approve method statements for site works and surveys in coordination with the project engineer.

• Experience applying fire codes and standards.
• Professional membership or accreditation (e.g., CIBSE, IET).
• Degree in Fire Engineering or a related discipline.
• Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE).
• Chartered Fire Engineer status (CEng) with the Institution of Fire Engineers.
