We are hiring an Operations Engineer for the Network Engineering team within Operations and Maintenance. Reporting to the Network Configuration Leader, the role provides hands‑on engineering support across water and wastewater networks, contributes to operational engineering solutions, and may participate in an on‑call roster. It is an early‑career position designed to build depth in operational engineering within a large, complex utility.
In this role you will support network configuration and performance, ensure compliance with safety, regulatory and water‑quality requirements, and assist with the acceptance of new assets as well as the decommissioning of retiring ones. You will also analyse processes, lead continuous‑improvement initiatives, and work collaboratively with Network Services to deliver safe, reliable and cost‑effective services while building your own technical capability through learning and coaching.
The ideal candidate is a developing engineer with a Bachelor of Engineering from a recognised institution and 1‑3 years of experience in an engineering environment, preferably within utilities, infrastructure or operations. You should have exposure to technical analysis, a solid understanding of operational or asset‑management principles, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. A proactive, accountable mindset focused on safety and customer outcomes is essential.
If you are an early‑career engineer eager to grow your operational engineering experience in a purpose‑driven organisation, we encourage you to apply for this 12‑month opportunity and help shape the future of leadership and learning at Urban Utilities.
Joining Urban Utilities means working on essential infrastructure that supports community health and wellbeing, while gaining experience in a large, technically complex network. You will benefit from structured development, mentoring, flexible work options and a supportive, values‑driven culture that prioritises safety, integrity and performance.
