The Distribution Arranger supports safe and reliable operation of the Distribution Electric System by reviewing, analyzing, and preparing switching for operational, maintenance, and asset improvement tasks. Working from the 24/7 distribution control center, the Arranger oversees the system in real time to ensure reliable service delivery to customers and communities, and works on rotating shifts as required.
Essential functions include demonstrating safety leadership, promoting a diverse and inclusive environment, and ensuring all work complies with company standards, regulations, and procedures. The Arranger utilizes OMS, SCADA, and other operational programs to monitor system health, reviews planned switching requests, analyzes impacts, prepares switching orders, assists with emergency switching, monitors alarms, tracks compliance dates, and runs ADMS analyses such as power flow, fault location, and feeder load management.
Additional technical duties involve verification and commissioning of GIS data in NMS, updating the model with the NMS support team, and periodically assuming the duties of the ESSO Supervisor. The role also requires responding to emergencies following established incident command and storm recovery structures.
Required qualifications are a high school diploma or GED, at least four years of electric utility operations or engineering experience, and a valid driver’s license. Candidates must demonstrate quick emergency decision‑making, stakeholder motivation, strong organizational skills, knowledge of distribution and transmission lines, substation operations, and the ability to read single‑line diagrams and engineering drawings. The position demands flexible hours, shift rotations, possible overnight travel, completion of NIPSCO’s General Order training, and daily use of software such as iTOA, NMS, GIS, SAP, CIS, ESO1, SCADA, CYME, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and PMP certification. The role involves physical demands such as constant walking, standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, hearing, talking, and repetitive motions.
