2021 Founded
Year Established
Koloma was established in 2021 with a focus on harnessing naturally occurring hydrogen for a clean energy future.
  • It applies advanced data-driven analytics, AI, seismic imaging, and geochemistry to identify promising hydrogen reservoirs globally.
  • Projects include exploration in the U.S. Midcontinent Rift system and a strategic imaging partnership with Fleet Space targeting global hydrogen-forming formations.
  • It builds on research led by co-founder and CTO Tom Darrah, adapting oil-gas industry tools for hydrogen discovery.
  • By potentially unlocking vast underground hydrogen resources, aims to redefine the hydrogen economy and decarbonize sectors like fertilizer, industry, and aviation.
Culture + Values
Environment + Sustainability
  • Production of geologic hydrogen with near‑zero carbon intensity compared to steam methane reforming and electrolysis.
  • Operations designed for minimal surface disruption, reducing habitat destruction and soil erosion.
  • Hydrogen production with significantly lower water use than electrolysis, important in water‑stressed areas.
  • Emphasis on robust methane and hydrogen leak detection and repair to avoid potent greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Use of data‑driven geological modeling and targeted exploration to lower energy and environmental impact.
