The Design Manager will lead professional civil tasks on transportation projects across Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Hawaii and Guam, provide guidance to junior staff, collaborate with clients, support project managers with scope, schedule, budget, risk, and deliver high‑quality engineering solutions. The position also coordinates with other design disciplines, stays current on civil engineering practices, and adheres to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
The role includes mentoring early‑career engineers, assisting in the growth of the civil engineering/roadway design team, and collaborating with local offices and national transportation experts to support business development, strategy, and client engagement in the district.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, have 5‑7 years of post‑degree experience, an Engineer‑in‑Training certification, and preferably a PE license. Experience with public agencies, civil design, infrastructure planning, construction management, relevant codes, project management, and proficiency in technical software (Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads) is required. Strong communication, self‑leadership, QA/QC adherence, safety focus, and ability to travel as needed are also essential.
Preferred experience includes working with state DOTs or transit agencies, expertise in roadway/highway design and 3‑D modeling, established client relationships, business development involvement, and a multi‑state PE license.
