The Traffic Engineer will join the Traffic and Planning team as a technical resource on a variety of traffic design projects. Responsibilities include preparing signing, pavement marking, signal, lighting, temporary traffic control, and intelligent transportation system (ITS) plans, performing detailed checks, and guiding junior staff and technicians. The engineer will also support project managers with fee proposals, team direction, timely client deliverables, and financial monitoring, and may assist regional offices in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio.
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, eight years of traffic design experience, and a PE license in Pennsylvania or Ohio. Candidates should be familiar with PennDOT, PTC, and ODOT standards, proficient with SignCAD and ORD, and able to prioritize multiple projects. Local candidates are given preference, and an active commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture is required.
Required qualifications consist of a bachelor’s degree, professional engineering license for the job location, and hands‑on experience with traffic design using CAD platforms such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Guide Sign. The candidate must be skilled in operational analysis tools (HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Aimsun), safety analysis software, and Microsoft Office, with strong verbal and written communication abilities. An attitude that embraces the employee‑owned culture is essential.
