The Senior Chief Engineer leads the engineering department, ensuring high-quality work, superior customer service, and alignment with corporate standards at Cushman & Wakefield. Reporting to the Management Team, this position upholds the company’s ethical standards and business code of conduct.
The role is accountable for planning, implementing, coordinating, and supervising mechanical operations, maintenance, and modifications across assigned properties. It guarantees that plant infrastructure and equipment function safely, efficiently, and reliably, leveraging systems such as energy management, preventive maintenance, building automation, and fire protection.
- Lead and supervise engineering and maintenance staff, handling hiring, training, development, and performance reviews.
- Manage properties of 500,000+ square feet.
- Conduct inspections, energy audits, and surveys for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, environmental, and ADA compliance.
- Review technical operations and third‑party surveys.
- Develop and update preventive maintenance, hazardous material communication, fire safety, emergency action, life‑safety, water quality, and indoor‑air‑quality programs.
- Prepare operating cost estimates and support property operations budgeting, including service contracts, R&M, utilities, supplies, payroll, and regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to capital budgeting and long‑term planning analytics.
- Coordinate engineer career development and performance evaluations.
- Oversee building systems (fire/life safety, plumbing, HVAC, electrical) and stay current with HVAC technology and maintenance methodologies.
- Manage maintenance activities with external contractors, tenant finish personnel, and engineers.
- Review and approve construction documents to ensure adherence to building standards.
- Draft specifications and manage maintenance/repair service contracts.
- Assist in marketing proposals, acquisition start‑up processes, and coordination of building equipment for tenant construction.
- Ensure compliance with codes, government regulations, and company directives.
- Lead rehabilitation projects such as HVAC replacements, roof installations, and plumbing repairs.
- Produce feasibility studies, budget estimates, schedules, and contract documents.
- Oversee bidding processes and internal control approvals.
- Monitor construction compliance and coordinate with users and internal support groups.
- Maintain comprehensive project files with progress, approvals, financial data, and contracts.
- Conduct final inspections, manage punch‑list items, and expedite corrective actions.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, project controls, and environmental regulations.
- Skillfully schedule staff, after‑hour assignments, and preventive maintenance priorities.
- Work in a professional office environment, using standard office equipment and traveling between properties.

Candidates must possess at least ten years of engineering experience in commercial property settings, with extensive supervisory responsibility and deep technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life-safety, and control systems. A high school diploma or GED is required, supplemented by vocational training, relevant licenses, and proficiency in EMS, BMS, and standard office software.
The job is performed in a professional office setting with regular travel between properties and occasional exposure to varying weather conditions. Physical duties involve standing, walking, climbing stairs, and occasional manual tasks while predominantly using office equipment.
- Demonstrate communication proficiency, both oral and written.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal, organizational, technical, and leadership skills.
- Hold a High School Diploma or GED.
- Possess vocational/technical training certificates and appropriate trade licenses (e.g., Journeyman or Master Electrician).
- Be familiar with Energy Management Systems, fire alarm systems, and Building Management Systems.
- Understand property management financial reporting for R&M, utility, and capital expenses and explain variances.
- Proficient in Outlook, Excel, and Word.
