The Sr Specialist, Developer Services is responsible for supervising, coordinating and administering developer-funded new water and wastewater system construction programs.
- Ensure inspection during construction and that as-built information is recorded and tracked properly. Oversee the turnover process to the local operations team.
- Review and approve new development requests to determine if the proposed system can be adequately served by our existing infrastructure to meet company and regulatory standards, or if improvements are required to extend service.
- Supports manager to ensure effective people management policies and practices are developed and implemented (e.g., time and attendance, workforce management, etc.) and ensure resources are developed and deployed appropriately.
- Administer the cost estimation, funding and refund processes of developer-installed and Company-installed water and wastewater construction program for new developments.
- Implement and foster the coaching and development of employees, including idea generation, within respective functional areas.
- Coordinate with key American Water functional stakeholders, including operations, finance, and customer teams.
- Interface with developers, developer engineers/contractors, company engineers and operations associates and state/local regulatory bodies to ensure American Water processes and standards are followed and the installation of new water and wastewater projects are completed efficiently.

Standard indoor office environment. While performing the duties of this job, occasionally works in construction environments, near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and could include a work environment where possible exposure to physical hazards, weather extremes, wet and/or humid conditions and chemicals exist. The ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment is required.

- Ability to work independently on complex projects of large scope.
- Computer literacy. Competent in the use of work processing, spreadsheet, flow-charting.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills; attention to detail.
- 4+ years’ experience with a bachelor’s degree or 10+ years’ experience without a bachelor’s degree in utility or land development or construction. Experience in the water/wastewater field preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field. Relevant work-related experience in lieu of degree may be considered.
- Knowledge in utility construction or land development.
- Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., tact/diplomacy, persuasion, team building, cooperation, leadership, ability to motivate others.
- Leadership presence (e.g., ability to deal effectively and maintain collaborative relationships with Company senior management and other key internal and external stakeholders).
- Strong verbal and written communications skills (e.g., report writing, listening, and presentation).
- Financial analysis skills, including budget management and basic accounting knowledge.
- Knowledge of Engineering principles related to water and wastewater system design and operations.
