Modernization Mechanic

Description

The Modernization Mechanic will analyze problems, collaborate with subcontractors, general contractors, and consultants, and keep projects on schedule while reporting progress to a supervisor. Safety is the top priority, and the mechanic must interpret technical documents and work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment. Core tasks include manually assembling and installing major elevator components, wiring and installing smaller parts, and ensuring all work complies with safety standards.

• Analyze issues and collaborate with subcontractors, contractors, and consultants on modernization projects.
• Maintain project timelines and report progress to the supervisor.
• Prioritize site safety and comply with all safety standards and policies.
• Manually assemble and install major elevator components such as rails, pits, hoist‑way equipment, car and counterweight assemblies, and machine‑room equipment.
• Wire and install smaller components including roller guides, door tracks, linkages, hall buttons, and lanterns, using color‑coded wiring.
• Demonstrate high concentration for intermittent wiring, installation, maintenance, and equipment updates.
• Operate hand and power tools, perform manual dexterity tasks, and drive an automobile as needed.

Requirements

KONE is seeking a Modernization Mechanic for the Greater Miami territory. The role focuses on modernization projects, requiring strong safety awareness, troubleshooting skills, and excellent customer service communication. This is an evergreen requisition, with applications reviewed continuously and positions filled according to local union agreements.

Candidates must hold a valid Certificate of Competency and communicate clearly in writing and verbally. The position demands high concentration for intermittent wiring, installation, maintenance, and updates, as well as physical stamina for walking, standing, lifting up to 100 lb, and frequent travel. Ability to work in field settings with variable climate, use hand and power tools, and operate an automobile is required.

• Meet physical demands: walk/stand 80% of the time, lift up to 100 lb, perform repetitive stooping and crouching, and travel up to 95% of the time.
• Eligible for membership in the International Union of Elevator Constructors.
