Shift Engineer, Data Centres

Description

The Electrical Shift Engineer will join the engineering shift team at a critical facilities/data‑centre site in Slough, GB. The role focuses on inspection, operation and maintenance of MEP assets with an electrical bias, emphasizing risk management and continuous improvement of service delivery.

• Conduct planned, corrective and reactive maintenance on all MEP systems, prioritising electrical components.
• Issue Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) documents and ensure compliance with method statements and risk assessments.
• Supervise and inspect specialist vendor service visits, communicating findings to shift leadership.
• Provide engineering shift relief and cover opposite‑shift teammates to maintain minimum staffing levels.
• Accurately record completed work orders, spare usage and time spent in the Corrigo CMMS, meeting SLA targets.
• Prepare and deliver shift handover reports, highlighting significant events for incoming crews and management.
• Participate in health‑and‑safety activities, including hazard reporting, near‑miss documentation and toolbox talks.
• Liaise with the supply chain to order M&E components for remedial and corrective tasks.
• Maintain plant rooms and controlled areas to required show‑site standards and evaluate potential risks.
• Escalate ONWH alarm notifications according to EMEA MEP escalation procedures.
• Meet the SFG20 standards for reliability and maintenance delivery of critical assets.

Requirements

Ideal candidates have at least five years of experience in critical environments such as data centres or banking headquarters, an electrical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent, and strong communication, IT and report‑writing skills. The position requires the ability to work calmly under pressure, a willingness to undertake specialised training, and a commitment to health‑and‑safety compliance and continuous improvement.

• Minimum 5 years experience in critical environments (e.g., data centres, banking HQ).
• Electrical engineering apprenticeship or comparable qualification; HVAC experience is desirable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, IT proficiency and report‑writing ability.
• Proven ability to work calmly under pressure and meet client service deadlines.
• Willingness to undertake specialist training such as High‑Voltage Authorised Person certification.
• Demonstrates initiative, integrity, punctuality and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
