As a Geological or Mining Engineer at Hydrostor, you will play a crucial role in our renewable energy projects, contributing directly to the development and implementation of innovative, long-duration underground energy storage solutions. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility will be to provide underground engineering expertise and support for energy storage facilities' design, construction, and operation. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including in-house engineering, consultants, contractors and project management, to ensure the successful execution of our projects and the optimization of our energy storage systems. Your role is integral to advancing our mission of providing sustainable and reliable underground energy storage solutions.

  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and analyses, to identify and mitigate potential risks to underground construction safety and performance.
  • Site Screening: Perform desktop geological investigations to identify locations with geologic formations ideal for energy storage complex placement, working closely with the Business Development teams, in various jurisdictions globally.
  • Geotechnical and Ground Support Design Support: Coordinate collection and field validation of geological parameters to support internal and external geotechnical and ground support design efforts.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support and expertise to project teams, contractors, and stakeholders, addressing geological/geotechnical challenges and optimizing project outcomes through proactive problem-solving and collaboration.
  • Underground Design & Construction Oversight: Coordinate and provide input into the shafts and cavern design process. Provide oversight during underground construction activities, including shaft and cavern excavation, and ground improvement, to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety protocols.
  • Site Investigation: Provide oversight for subsurface exploration programs, including soil and rock sampling, laboratory and in-situ testing, geophysical surveys, and geological mapping, to assess subsurface conditions and inform project design.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports, drawings, and documentation, summarizing site investigations, design analyses, and construction activities, to support project documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Instrumentation and Monitoring: Coordinate installation and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation, such as telltales, piezometers, and extensometers, to assess ground behaviour and performance during construction and operation.
