The Technical Training Specialist conducts specialized Relay training, delivering classroom, hands‑on, and one‑on‑one instruction. They facilitate coaching and feedback, ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards, and provide detailed evaluations to operations management based on audits and observations.
Key duties include facilitating Train‑the‑Trainer programs, delivering apprenticeship and advanced hire training, orienting supervisors and adjunct trainers, and managing onboarding for new hires. The specialist also conducts OSHA and Duke Energy certifications, supports operational audits, participates in apparent cause analyses, and provides consistent storm‑response support. Additional responsibilities involve coordinating local and international Lineman Rodeos, leading public safety demos, developing training standards and modernizing facilities, and serving on boards and committees to drive continuous improvement.
Basic qualifications require a High School diploma or GED plus six years of related experience for a Technical Training Specialist, or eight years for a Senior PGO Training Specialist. Desired qualifications include strong knowledge of the C&M discipline, self‑direction, problem‑solving ability, excellent organization, attention to detail, interpersonal leadership, and effective facilitation and presentation skills. The role involves onsite work, outdoor activities in varied weather, lifting, a 4‑10 hour workweek with on‑demand storm response, and 15‑25 % travel; relocation assistance is available.
