Most assignments will be performed in an office, meeting, or operations command center environment, but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event). This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting up to 25 lbs., as well as frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs. The Traffic Engineering team is seeking a Graduate Engineer to join our group of skilled engineers, engineers-in-training, and project managers. In this role, the primary responsibilities of a Graduate Engineer include conducting traffic engineering studies and reviewing, planning, designing, and/or managing transportation engineering projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to deal tactfully with a diverse group of people in a professional manner in a complex organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related fields.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an EAC/ABET-accredited program in the United States or Board-designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET
- A Board-approved combination of a Bachelor's degree in one of the mathematical, physical, or engineering sciences and a graduate degree in engineering from a university with an EAC/ABET-accredited undergraduate program in the same discipline of engineering
- Bachelor's degree in engineering technology from a TAC/ABET-accredited program
- A Bachelor's or graduate degree in mathematical, physical, or engineering science approved by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- A valid Texas driver’s license is required, and the ability to drive a County vehicle to various job sites as necessary.
- Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T)
- Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.
- Experience with software programs such as GIS, AutoCAD, PC Warrant, Guide Sign, Tru Traffic, and Synchro/Simtraffic.
- Working knowledge of Harris County Regulations, Standards, and Details.
- Ability to read and comprehend construction documents and engineering studies.
- Experience coordinating with external agencies (e.g. COH, TxDOT, etc.).
