Field Technician

Description

The Field Technician will perform on‑site reviews of poles and other electric facilities for aerial and underground distribution projects, working closely with the design team and occasionally interacting with property owners to explain project intentions. The position is remote‑based in the Richmond, Virginia area, with field work required, and candidates must reside within two hours of Richmond.

The role may involve extensive standing, walking on uneven ground, climbing ladders, working in high places or tight spaces, and lifting up to 50 lb, often in all‑weather conditions, making it physically demanding. • Use digital camera, measuring wheel/laser range finder, smart device, and angle finder to capture field data.
• Conduct field reviews of electric facilities, recording pole markings, centerline measurements, attachment heights, down and span guys, and GPS locations.
• Sketch site layouts, note existing equipment, and take photographs for future permitting.
• File collected data in the system, create folders, download and organize photos, scan notes, and submit daily status reports.
• Lead safety briefings that identify critical work steps, associated hazards, and control measures.

Requirements

• Possess an associate’s degree (preferred) or at least two years of experience with power distribution or telecommunications.
• Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean record for the past five years.
• Demonstrate AutoCAD proficiency (preferred) and familiarity with IKE Device, ikeGPS, or Hot Stick tools.
• Have a high‑level understanding of utility, telecommunications, or power design engineering (preferred).
• Know electrical standards such as the NEC and NESC (preferred) and be familiar with Katapult‑type equipment (preferred).
