The Laborer/Groundman provides general labor on aerial and underground construction projects, handling tasks such as trench digging, material unloading, site preparation, fiber‑blowing, conduit placement, and equipment operation. The role involves reading maps, supporting vehicle movement, performing maintenance, and adhering to safety procedures and NESC guidelines.
- Dig trenches, unload materials, and prepare job sites using hand tools.
- Perform fiber‑blowing operations and assist with fiber optic cable installation.
- Place conduit and conduct general construction labor under foreman supervision.
- Read maps and follow directions for site activities.
- Assist with trench digging, closing, and material/vehicle movement.
- Perform maintenance tasks such as cleanup, vehicle washing, and landscaping.
- Operate trucks and equipment, including towing flatbed trailers.
- Conduct aerial and underground work, including pole climbing, as trained.
- Troubleshoot and repair RF and fiber lines and related equipment.
- Construct and repair underground RF and fiber services.
- Learn and follow NESC safety guidelines and obtain equipment certifications.
- Relocate RF and fiber services as needed.
- Maintain daily safety practices and high‑quality workmanship.
- Read and interpret maps, drawings, and design schematics.

Ideal candidates prioritize safety, have a proven record of quality work, and enjoy hands‑on problem solving. They must hold a valid driver’s license with a clean record, be able to lift 70 lb, read schematics and maps, and possess climbing certification or related experience. Experience with RF and fiber overhead construction, knowledge of network architecture, and flagger certification are also preferred.
