The A&I Engineer will support dealers and end customers in applying Caterpillar power production and management products to oil and gas applications. This role combines physical installation expertise with controls integration to maintain high customer focus, enhance dealer support, and grow market share.
- Act as a visible ambassador for Caterpillar, shaping external customer and dealer perception.
- Collaborate with dealers and customers to install and integrate gensets in oil and gas applications.
- Communicate product technical specifications and capabilities to the sales force.
- Provide verbal and written technical assistance, including field support activities.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert, feeding customer input into product development and optimization.
- Create and maintain application, installation manuals, and other technical communications.
- Develop and deliver product and application training for dealers and end customers.

The position is based in Houston, TX (preferred) or Lafayette, IN, requires onsite work five days a week, and involves up to 25% travel (potentially 50% with business demand). Relocation is supported, but sponsorship is not available.
Candidates need a bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or 3‑5 years of equivalent experience, with a background in power generation engineering, testing, or applications up to 13.8 kV. Experience with control systems, genset configuration, tuning, and parallel load sharing is essential.
- Prior dealer/customer‑facing experience with a self‑starter attitude.
- Deep expertise in switchgear, genset controls, AC distribution, parallel operations, and engine systems.
- Technical support experience in the oil and gas industry, including design and application of competitive gas/diesel gensets.
- Demonstrated ability to provide prompt, high‑quality responses, sometimes requiring extended workdays and travel.
Benefits
