The Project Engineer supplies technical engineering information to the Superintendent and Project Manager to guarantee that construction activities adhere to all engineering standards, codes, and specifications.
This role reports directly to the Project Manager and is accountable for delivering required technical support.
Key functions include interpreting blueprints, researching and resolving drawing issues, preparing field design change requisitions and “as‑built” drawings, generating status reports, punch lists, material calculations, and other documentation, and presenting discrepancies to the Project Manager and Superintendent. Additional tasks involve preparing purchase and change orders and performing other assignments as directed.
The Engineer supervises field layout and surveying, reviews and issues drawings to field staff, ensures all data complies with engineering standards, maintains field engineering books and records, oversees concrete inspections and sign‑offs, controls surveying equipment, and performs any additional assignments from the supervisor.
Performance is measured by accurate blueprint interpretation, effective problem resolution, timely preparation of change requisitions and documents, professional presentation of discrepancies, and diligent maintenance of document control logs.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with a preference for the same degree. Although no prior experience is mandatory, three years of construction experience is preferred. The position demands advanced computer skills, a working knowledge of construction equipment, drawing interpretation, material standards, and the ability to perform mathematical calculations and communicate effectively.
Physical demands involve primarily seated work in a climate‑controlled office, but also occasional field inspections that require walking, climbing ladders, and using visual and auditory senses. The candidate must handle stressful deadlines, communicate in English both verbally and in writing, and comprehend business math and data.
Working conditions consist of roughly half the time in the office and half in the field, with typical workdays of 8 to 10 hours and occasional early‑morning or late‑evening meetings.
